Later in 2001, BCB dropped the recording label due to
"reimbursable costs", the band fell apart mainly due to the long
distances between band members and heavy gigging schedule. Brian
changed the strategy to becoming the premier Northern CA and
Napa Valley band and changed the line up to Jason McGrath
on 5-string fretted/fretless basses and vocals, David Parker on
drums/percussion and vocals, and
Dan Hayes
on electric guitar and vocals.
In 2005, BCB released Got it Covered, a 14 song CD. The CD was
recorded live at Napa's Chef's Market in the 2004 season and
documents some of BCB's covers that they often play at live
shows. The 10 cover songs range from Stevie Wonder's "
Superstition" to James Taylor's " Fire & Rain". Also included
are four originals, two remakes of originals from Hold the Keys
and Within Without . The CD was also Brian's first recording
engineer debut. This recording captures the energy of BCB's live
shows and also exemplifies some of the creative reworkings of
classic songs that they often perform at their shows. The group
has over 10 original songs they haven't recorded yet, and if the
gig schedule ever lightens up a bit, you can expect another
release in the future.
Dan Hayes
specializes in filling out the textures and putting the
finishing touches on the soundscape. "Textural color" comes to
mind when thinking of Dan's playing. A quintessential pro, he
always plays the right note at the right time, adding the
perfect chord, the perfect solo, or the perfect accent to a
section. Dan shares many of the same influences with the rest of
the guys and has a modern edge, which he adds to the band. Dan
is the lead "rapper" and plays samples, emulates horn and piano
parts and is the all around versatility guy. Dan is the reason
we can do what we do and not hire a keyboardist. All texture
aside, the guy can rip a solo with the best of them.
Dan is the "idea" man in the band. His noodlings are integral to
the band's songwriting, as they are often the basis for new
songs or new sections in the writing process. He is also the
first to come up with a cool tone or sound that gets the band's
creative juices flowing.
