Brian  came from a musical family. His mother, uncle, grandparents, great-grandparents were all professional musicians at one time or another. Some of his earliest memories were of hanging out at folk concerts & rehearsals. While growing up, groups like the Beatles, Journey, Boston, Genesis, Rush, & Yes made a lasting impression on him. Mostly self-taught, he learned guitar and piano at the age of 5. By the age of 12, he had a group of musicians together that played Rush covers and played in talent shows. At 14, he got his first professional gig, with his uncle's band playing electric guitar. At 15, he formed Mae Dae which would later become Enchant (still alive and well on the Inside Out label). At this point, he started playing bass, singing lead vocals, and writing songs, because he found no one else who would.

Brian's main project until 1991 was Enchant. After Enchant and on his own, he joined, quit and/or was "dismissed" from numerous bands, while he gained more professional experience and direction. He played everything from classical, blues, disco, metal, rock, to synth-pop, mostly in nightclubs and for corporate events, while he continued to write on the side.

The vision for BCB started in 1997 when Brian released Hold the Keys on his own label. The CD took almost a year to record and includes 10 originals and 2 bonus tracks. On the recording, Brian served the role of producer, co-engineer, played most of the acoustic and electric guitars, and performed all vocal, bass, keyboard, and electric cello parts on the disc. In February of 2000, the album was re-released nationally and in Japan by Icourse Recordings with distribution through Valley Media/DNA, the world's largest independent distributor. Despite being released by an independent record label, all the major retail chains and online stores picked up the release and soon thereafter, worked its way up the radio charts. The release of the first single, "Hold the Keys"”, hit New Music Weekly and FMQB charts, at #40 and #81 respectively. Most notably, the song came in #3 nationwide for most added song on the week of its release.

In 2001, as a result of doing "Hold the Keys", the pieces began to fall in place. Brian began playing with other musicians in order to mix in more styles and influences and so that he could play live shows with a full band. As the sound evolved with the new band members, BCB was created and the new material that they had developed was released as "Within Without", a 6 song EP featuring band members Rob Sherman, Andrew Lion, and Paul Batres. On the CD he adds some piano and cello as well. Within Without adds more edge to Brian's solo material, but Brian still plays acoustic.
